Configuring DNS

For Rainmail to act as a Gateway for LAN machine, Rainmail Server must be set as DNS Server. In this section, we will see how DNS can be set as Rainmail Server for Windows 7. For other OS, a similar set of steps will be required.

  1. Click on Start button and select Control Panel. That will bring up the control panel as below

  1. Click on View network status and tasks. That will bring up the following screen

  1. In the above screen, click on Change adapter settings. In the screen that comes up, Right click and on Local Area Connection and select Properties. That will bring up the following dialog

  1. In the above dialog, select Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties. That will bring up the following dialog

  1. Enter the IP address of Rainmail Server in the edit box corresponding to Preferred DNS Server.
  2. Click on Advanced button. In the dialog that comes up, click on DNS tab. That will bring up following dialog

  1. Enter your Rainmail Server domain name in the Edit box next to DNS suffix for this connection field. The domain name will normally be the same as the domain part of your Email address. However, if you are not sure, do confirm with your System Administrator.
  2. Click on Ok for all the dialogs.
  3. Now the client machine has been configured to use Rainmail Server as DNS Server.
